New Tricks Summary: As punishment for messing up a kidnap rescue and shooting a dog in the process Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman (Amanda Redman) is assigned to the newly created unsolved murder squad. Due to a manpower shortage her team is made up of veteran detectives Brian Lane, Jack Halford and Gerry Standing, seconded back into the police force who bring a 1970's attitude to modern policing rather than vice versa. Pullman tells her team that their next crime took place at Buckingham Palace. At the palace, they meet Sir Timothy who is in charge of the Queen's art collection. A painting in the collection has been identified as a forgery. Pullman's team has been brought in to trace the source of the forgery and find the original painting. Sir Timothy indicates that his predecessor, Sir Stephen, had brought the forgery into the Queen's collection and sold off the original. Sir Timothy flirts with Sandra Pullman. Pullman's team are not unhappy about the case as they have no art expertise and the few initial leads they have go nowhere. Pullman's superior insists her team stay on the case, with the help of an expert from Art Fraud. |

After further investigation, the team find out that an arson attack took place in the forger's studio and he committed suicide shortly after. Pullman calls Sir Tim to give him an update and he invites her to go to the opera with him the following night and she accepts. Pullman meets with Sir Tim for the opera and enjoys herself. However, after the opera, she confronts him with the evidence that has been uncovered during the investigation - that he went to school with the forger and that the forger was killed by an art collector who discovered he had bought a fake. The team realise that it was Sir Tim who was having forgeries created and then selling them to collectors as the real, supposedly stolen, artwork. Sir Tim insists that no harm was done with the forgeries but Pullman arrests him.
